Preparing surfaces for a stronger bond
Clean, dry and well-fitted surfaces do much of the work before any adhesive is applied.

A bond can only be as good as the surfaces it joins. Dust, oil, old finishes and poorly fitted joints all reduce the contact area the adhesive can work with.
A simple checklist
- Remove dust and loose fibres from both surfaces.
- Make sure surfaces are dry and free from oil or wax.
- Check the fit — gaps are not a substitute for clamping.
- Stir the adhesive before use so the consistency is even.
- Keep packs closed when not in use.
Follow the product label and technical guidance for spread, open time and pressing, as these vary between adhesives.
